Teaching Artist & Assistant Teaching Artist Positions Available

Hope Stone, Inc. is one of Houston’s strongest community arts education providers, providing dynamic arts programming and creative mindfulness classes with a vision of Art for All. Our mindful arts healing and education outreach program is called The Hope Project, which serves over 900 children (98% economically disadvantaged) and adults in their schools and facilities.

Teaching Artist

We are seeking Teaching Artists for the school calendar year of August 2024-May 2025. During the school year, The Hope Project works with community partners across Houston providing a wide range of art and creative mindfulness classes to students ages 2–18 years old, as well as a senior residential communities and adults with intellectual disabilities. Serving students who are 98% economically disadvantaged requires experience working with this demographic of children. The Hope Project runs all year, allowing students to feel their arts experiences are a part of their school life. Patience, understanding, compassion, and classroom management skills are necessary. We seek Teaching Artists who can create a nurturing learning arts environment that engages our students in creative art classes appropriate for their developmental ages.

Teaching Artists needed for the following classes: Photography/Video Design; Creative Movement (2-6yrs)

Job Responsibilities & requirements for Teaching Artist

  • Passionate about teaching art and creating and fostering a warm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

  • Strong content knowledge in the art genre (please specify in your resume).

  • Prior experience in the classroom and/or with teaching children.

  • Create and execute a 20-week curriculum, teaching fundamentals of specific artistic genre.

  • Collaborate with Hope Stone staff to create, refine, and implement curricula based on student needs and Hope Stone’s curriculum. Work closely with community partners to achieve goals and learning outcomes.

  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings, orientation, curriculum development review, site-based program planning/improvement meetings (site staff meetings, year-end showcase planning meetings), and professional development sessions. Receptive to coaching and feedback.

  • Collaborate with the assigned Teaching Artist Assistant. Maintain a safe, well-managed learning environment with clear expectations of students.

  • Proactively communicate with Program Managers regarding scheduling and other needs as well as communicate effectively and promptly to all e-mails, texts, and phone calls.

  • Represent Hope Stone, Inc. in a professional and informed manner.

  • Applicants must be available to participate in curriculum workshops in August 2024.

  • Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.

Assistant Teaching Artist

We also seek Assistant Teaching Artists interested in supporting the work of lead Teaching Artists. This position serves as a great training opportunity for someone who may not have classroom experience, but is passionate about arts education and sharing their art form with students.

Assistant Teaching Artists needed for the following classes: positions currently filled, though resumes are always accepted as positions may become available during the schoolyear.

  • Collaborate and support the lead Teaching Artist in carrying out lesson plans and facilitating the class.

  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings, orientation, curriculum development review, site-based program planning/improvement meetings (site staff meetings, year-end showcase planning meetings), and professional development sessions. Receptive to coaching and feedback, with a willingness to learn and train during the year.

  • Proactively communicate with Program Managers regarding scheduling and other needs as well as communicate effectively and promptly to all e-mails, texts, and phone calls.

  • Help the Lead Teacher maintain a safe, well-managed learning environment with clear expectations of students.

  • Represent Hope Stone, Inc. in a professional and informed manner.

  • Applicants must be available to participate in curriculum workshops in August 2024

  • Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.

Per Diem Compensation

Teaching Artist: $50-$80/hour contingent on experience

Assistant Teaching Artist: $20/hour
